Since the start of the undergrounding works of the northern section of Paseo de la Castellana, on July 1, residents of the San Cristóbal neighborhood in Chamartín have expressed their dissatisfaction due to the disturbances caused by nighttime works. The construction of the so-called Castellana Park, which will connect the Five Towers area with San Cristóbal, will be extended until 2027. During this process, the neighbors suffer interruptions to their sleep, which has led the San Cristóbal Neighborhood Association in the Castilla neighborhood to launch a Change.org campaign to prohibit work between 8:00 p.m. and 8:00 a.m. Enrique Hernández, president of the association, denounces that despite the authorities’ promises to limit nighttime work, several nights have seen noisy work carried out that affects the residents’ quality of life.
The noise exceeds the municipality's noise regulations, according to the neighbors, and in addition to the impact on residents' sleep, they argue that it also affects the La Paz hospital. In their statement, they emphasize the need to prioritize the right to rest and public health for everyone. In addition to the residents of San Cristóbal, other areas of Madrid, such as Ventas, are facing similar situations due to construction works. In that area, work is taking place in an elevated park over the M-30, with some tasks scheduled for the night, which aggravates the nuisance and disrupts the neighbors' rest. The concern centers on the prolonged impacts that these projects entail for daily life and the well-being of the community.
