In Toledo, Banco Santander has taken a decisive step toward promoting affordable housing by formalizing financing for 86 protected housing units at 6 Río Cabriel Street. This project is carried out in collaboration with the Official Credit Institute (ICO), and it is the second initiative of this kind undertaken by the banking entity under the ICO Line of the Recovery Plan.
The program aims not only to promote the construction of new housing but also to rehabilitate existing buildings, placing a strong emphasis on affordable social rents. The projects that receive funding must comply with energy efficiency criteria, reflecting the authorities' commitment to sustainability.
The promoter Grupo ASCH Infraestructuras y Servicios SA has received this financing within the framework of the second phase of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan, financed by the Next Generation EU Funds. To ensure the success of these investments, the Ministry of Housing and Urban Agenda offers a 50% guarantee.
It is important to note that, in May of this year, Santander and the ICO had already collaborated on a similar transaction to finance 120 social housing units in the Zabalgana neighborhood, in Vitoria. This continuity in efforts reflects a solid commitment to improving the supply of affordable housing in various localities across the country.
In an environment where the need for affordable housing is becoming increasingly urgent, Santander reaffirms its position as a leading entity in the ICO loan segment. The entity has reached a 39% share in 2024, mainly in lines targeted at businesses and entrepreneurs, but also with a significant contribution to the rehabilitation of housing. These initiatives corroborate their commitment to the dynamization of the sector and to supporting SMEs and the self-employed, thereby ensuring a more sustainable and accessible future in the residential sphere.
