The Health Minister of the Community of Madrid, Fátima Matute, has inaugurated the 4th Conference of the Network of Advanced Therapies at the La Paz Public Hospital. This event brings together professionals from the sector to analyze the challenges and advances in the field of advanced therapies. Matute highlighted Madrid's pioneering position in these treatments and its commitment to ensuring fair and coordinated access, driving research, training, and healthcare management.
In her remarks, the councillor recalled that the region has been key in the development of advanced therapies over the last seven years, becoming a national benchmark. "The drive of the professionals and the work carried out have allowed us to remain a national benchmark today," said Matute, highlighting the achievements obtained during this period.
Regarding CAR-T therapies, Madrid has seven public hospitals accredited by the Ministry of Health, representing one third of the national total. This leadership is reflected in the fact that one out of every four requests for oncology patients come from outside the community.
Another notable milestone has been the development at the Puerta de Hierro Majadahonda Public Hospital of the first advanced therapy medicinal product authorized for use in the National Health System. This achievement stems from work in academic advanced therapies, with the support of the biomedical research foundations of hospitals and institutes.
To continue with this trend of innovation, the regional government has announced the upcoming opening of the Regional Center for Advanced Therapies (CRETA). This center will be located at the Madrid Transfusion Center and aims to increase the production of new drugs and support the research teams affiliated with the Madrid Health Service. The initiative reaffirms the Community of Madrid's commitment to remaining at the forefront in the field of advanced therapies.
