Catalonia will advance its space program with the launch of the 6GStarLab satellite, scheduled for early October. This nanosatellite, which continues the tradition started with 'Enxaneta' and 'Menut', will be devoted to the development of 6G technology, with the aim of improving communications, especially in remote and isolated areas of the territory. The 6GStarLab, built by Open Cosmos, will be able to conduct a series of experiments from low Earth orbit and promises to be a 'test bed' for driving innovation in the ecosystem of advanced technologies. Its mission is key not only for the evolution of telecommunications in Catalonia, but also for Europe's technological sovereignty in the face of powers such as the United States and China.
The complementary ground infrastructure will be located in Móra la Nova, in Tarragona, where an optical station will be established to facilitate access to essential services and to boost future quantum communications. This project, funded with Next Generation funds, will not only focus on telemedicine and distance education, but will also contribute to the prevention of natural disasters and cybersecurity. In turn, the installation of a gigafactory for Artificial Intelligence in the same area is proposed, which will highlight Catalonia's ambition in its leading role in technological innovation at the European level.
