The former Brazilian president Jair Bolsonaro has been discharged after an emergency admission for health problems and a suspected skin cancer. The hospitalization occurred after Bolsonaro presented symptoms of persistent anemia and renal abnormalities, which culminated in an episode of vomiting and dizziness. During his stay in the hospital, the doctors removed eight skin lesions from him, of which two turned out to be an early-stage squamous cell carcinoma. Although this diagnosis does not require immediate treatment, it will require periodic medical follow-up.
Bolsonaro, who faces a 27-year prison sentence for coup plotting after the 2022 elections, has had health problems since 2018, when he was stabbed during a rally. Nevertheless, the doctors have indicated that their current medical condition is not related to that previous incident. As a result of his recent complications, it is expected that the former president will continue his recovery at his residence, where he is under house arrest.
