The Spanish Agency for Food Safety and Nutrition (AESAN) issued a health alert due to the detection of the bacteria 'Listeria monocytogenes' and 'Escherichia coli' in white mold goat cheese from the brand 'Suerte Ampanera'. This product has been distributed in seven autonomous communities, including Asturias, Cantabria, Castile-La Mancha, Castile and León, Galicia, Basque Country and the Community of Madrid, although its redistribution to other regions is not ruled out. The alert was notified to AESAN through the Coordinated System for Rapid Information Exchange (SCIRI) following a communication from the health authorities of the Community of Madrid, and the involved company has taken self-control measures, alerting the authorities to prevent risks.
The authorities advise consumers who have these products at home not to consume them, and if they have done so and experience symptoms such as vomiting, diarrhea, or fever, go to a health center. Special attention is advised for pregnant women, who must follow the recommendations on food hygiene and the foods to avoid during gestation, given the potentially serious implications of Listeria monocytogenes. The AESAN has instructed the autonomous communities to proceed with the immediate withdrawal of the affected products from the distribution channels.
