Ukraine has achieved a significant advance in the military field by destroying a Russian Su-30 fighter jet using a Magura maritime drone, according to the Ukrainian Ministry of Defence. This event, which occurred near the port of Novorossiysk in the Black Sea, marks the first time a combat aircraft has been shot down by a maritime drone, highlighting the Ukrainian army's tactical innovation. The operation was the result of collaboration between the GUR, the Ukrainian Security Service and the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The plane, valued at 50 million dollars, caught fire after the missile impact and ended up falling into the water, marking a new chapter in modern technological warfare.
This attack takes place in a context of growing tension in the region, as Russian forces have previously reported the downing of several Ukrainian and British missiles, as well as the destruction of maritime drones in the Black Sea. The governor of Novorossiysk, Andrei Kravchenko, confirmed a massive attack that damaged the port's infrastructure and injured at least five people, including two minors. The successful use of maritime drones for these kinds of operations redefines the strategic balance in the conflict and underscores Ukraine's ability to challenge the Russian forces in its own maritime territory.
