A 22-year-old woman has died after being run over by a tram on Avenida Islas Canarias, in Santa Cruz de Tenerife. The accident occurred around 10:15 a.m. at the May 29 Roundabout, near the Cruz del Señor bus stop. The Emergency and Security Coordination Center (CECOES) of the Canary Islands Government received the alert about the incident, reporting that the victim had been trapped under the tram.
Upon arriving at the scene, the SUC ambulance personnel could only confirm the death of the young woman, who had injuries incompatible with life. The firefighters intervened to extricate the body, while the Local Police began the pertinent proceedings and has opened an investigation to determine the causes of the crash. The incident has caused delays to tram traffic on some sections of the line.
