The Macarena Brotherhood is preparing to hold an extraordinary general assembly this Tuesday, where the possibility of once again altering the face of its Dolorosa image will be discussed. This meeting has been convened following the controversial restoration carried out by Professor Francisco Arquillo, whose intervention has been criticized by the brothers and devotees, especially for an 'unwanted effect' on the image's eyelashes. The anticipation is high, as a massive attendance of approximately 17,000 brothers is expected, and 14 screens and loudspeakers have been arranged in several areas, guaranteeing the event's coverage.
The agenda will include a report from the Senior Brother, the condition assessment carried out by the Andalusian Institute of Historical Heritage, and the restoration proposal by Pedro Manzano. Although the council meeting should conclude with requests and questions, its duration could extend into the early hours. This process is crucial to resolve the crisis of confidence in the brotherhood, caused by the previous restoration, which has already led to several resignations on the Governing Board. The brotherhood has apologized for the "moral and devotional damage" caused, which highlights the tension within the confraternity community.
