Synology Revolutionizes with DSM 7.3: Intelligence in Data Tiering, Advanced Security, and AI Collaboration, now with greater compatibility for external drives

Synology, a renowned leader in network storage solutions, has launched the latest version of its NAS operating system, DiskStation Manager (DSM) 7.3. This update brings with it significant improvements in storage efficiency, security, and AI-powered productivity tools, thereby adapting to the needs of modern businesses and advanced users.

In light of the growing challenge of managing, protecting, and effectively utilizing large amounts of data, DSM 7.3 offers a comprehensive solution. Kenneth Hsu, director of Synology's System Group, emphasizes that this new version allows users to trust in a secure and prepared environment for future technological transformations.

One of the most notable changes is the flexibility of storage. During the process of expanding its catalog of validated units, Synology has allowed 25 models from its DiskStation Plus, Value, and J series to use third-party unvalidated disks, which provides users with greater flexibility without compromising long-term consistency and durability.

In terms of efficiency, the introduction of Synology Tiering makes a big difference. This intelligent system automatically categorizes files based on their usage, optimizing storage space and ensuring that high-performance resources are used for more critical data. This approach not only improves performance but also maximizes the return on investment in hardware.

Security constitutes another fundamental pillar of this update. With more than 50 security patches implemented in the last year and the use of risk indicators such as KEV, EPSS, and LEV, DSM 7.3 presents itself as a robust and resilient environment against external threats, thereby prioritizing protection and stability in its day-to-day operation.

Synology has also reinforced the productivity tools. Synology Drive and MailPlus have received new features that facilitate the organization and management of files and emails, reducing conflicts and improving efficiency in collaborative work.

In the field of artificial intelligence, the company has reached new milestones with more than 430,000 deployments of AI Console since 2025. The integration with OpenAI-compatible APIs planned for future versions promises to enhance automation and analytics capabilities within private environments, without compromising data security.

DSM 7.3 is now available for download, and regular users and businesses can benefit from the technological innovations introduced by Synology, adapting effortlessly to their specific storage and data management needs.
