The former PSOE Organization Secretary, Santos Cerdán, has announced that on Monday he will hand over his seat as a deputy in Congress, reaffirming his innocence amid a corruption scandal related to the Koldo plot. In statements made to La Sexta, Cerdán insisted on his desire to prove his innocence without invoking his parliamentary immunity, despite the report from the Central Operational Unit (UCO) of the Civil Guard that suggests his involvement in the management of commissions in the awarding of public works contracts in favor of former ministers and Socialist advisers.
Cerdán, who submitted his resignation as the party's Secretary of Organization, must formalize his resignation from his seat as a deputy through the Congress registry, a process that will culminate with the Board of the Lower House evaluating the request. The situation has become more complex after Judge Leopoldo Puente accepted Cerdán's appearance in the Koldo case and asked him about his decision to leave his seat, particularly ahead of his summons to appear before the Supreme Court on October 25.
