Hundreds of people gathered this Saturday in Valencia's San Agustín Square to protest under the slogan 'Sánchez, resign!', demanding accountability for the management of the DANA that devastated the province on October 29. The protesters, among whom were the affected, families of victims, and volunteers from various affected localities, such as Masanasa and Benetúser, chanted slogans against the Prime Minister, Pedro Sánchez, and the Minister Teresa Ribera, whom they blame for not having provided the necessary aid during the catastrophe. In addition, the central government's refusal to accept international aid and the delay in the Army's intervention, which, according to the protesters, worsened the consequences of the disaster.
The devastation caused by the floods in Valencia has left a death toll of 226 and a community struggling to regain normality. Villages south of Valencia are still facing an acute shortage of basic goods; tap water remains undrinkable, and the streets continue to be covered in mud and rubble. The Spanish Insurance Consortium has received more than 77,000 claims for property damage, highlighting the magnitude of the tragedy. As authorities and volunteers, together with the UME, work on cleanup tasks, uncertainty and discontent persist among those affected, who demand not only compensation but also justice and decisive responses from their political leaders.
