The Investigations Court No.Court No. 3 in Torrejón de Ardoz has ordered pretrial detention without bail for the man detained for murdering his 21-year-old ex-girlfriend Martha by stabbing her in the presence of her 15-month-old baby. The crime occurred in a dwelling in the Madrid district of Villaverde, where the young woman had been living for a month. Despite having a restraining order due to prior allegations of abuse, the arrestee had breached this order on several occasions. The victim and her son were alone in the house at the time of the attack, and although the baby came out unharmed, he remained in the same room with his mother's body.
The investigation has progressed with the arrest of another man accused of concealing the perpetrator of the crime. The National Police, after detecting him in telephone communication with the main suspect, arrested him in Torrejón de Ardoz. A video from a security camera in the home of the alleged killer captured the moment when he confessed to the homicide and discussed how to dispose of the weapon used. With this tragic incident, Martha becomes the 32nd victim of gender-based violence in Spain so far this year, an alarming reminder of the magnitude of the problem.
