The Civil Guard's Central Operative Unit (UCO) investigation has shed light on alleged corrupt practices within the Socialist Party, implicating key figures such as Koldo García, José Luis Ábalos and Santos Cerdán. Messages exchanged between García and the Director General of Highways, Javier Herrero, reveal indications of a possible 'tax' that could suggest irregular funding. According to the findings, García and his collaborators manipulated the awarding of public works contracts in favor of the company Acciona, obtaining bribes that exceed 620,000 euros. The UCO is investigating the involvement of Herrero, who allegedly influenced several awards in localities such as La Rioja and Asturias, which led to a significant increase in the budget of a recently awarded project.
On the other hand, Santos Cerdán aspired to be hired by the company Indra, with the intention of donating 80% of his salary to the PSOE. Cerdán expressed his frustration to Koldo García over Ábalos's lack of response and eventually contacted Pedro Sánchez himself, who told him that he could not accept a position at a listed company. His discontent was palpable when he indicated that the party was losing due to the decision, since his donation would have represented a substantial injection of funds. These elements have generated a climate of concern about transparency and ethics within the party in this context.
