Since 1974, Spain adjusts its clocks twice a year, in March and October, with the aim of making the most of daylight hours and saving energy. This change is so common that Google searches about the exact date of the time change have begun to increase since late September. Google Trends shows that users consistently turn to terms such as 'winter time change' and 'October time change' to determine the exact date. The official source for these inquiries is the Official State Gazette (BOE), which publishes a calendar with the dates of the upcoming time changes until 2026, in accordance with Royal Decree 236/2002.
The BOE establishes that the next switch to winter time will occur on Sunday, October 26, 2025, when the clocks will be set back one hour at 2:00 a.m., thus providing a 25-hour day. Since 2002, a European directive incorporated into the Spanish legal system determines the changes, fixing the last Sunday of October and March for the respective winter and summer times. Although the changes for 2026 have already been established, no dates for 2027 are expected. For next year, the change to daylight saving time will be on March 29, and the change to standard time on October 25.
