In a vibrant exhibition of creativity and talent, the Getafe University Hospital celebrated its sixth edition of the Rapid Painting Contest, aimed at young patients and users. With nearly 30 participants, the event brought together children and adolescents in an effort to capture their visions on the theme 'The Hospital in Your Life'.
In the Children's category, the winner was María Osuna Morales, aged 12, while Martina Navarro Vaquero, aged 10, took the consolation prize. Both are patients of the hospital's Pediatrics Department. In the Youth category, 13-year-old Valentina Valencia Torres, also a member of the Pediatrics Department, was recognized as the winner. Natalia O’Brien García, 15 years old and a Plastic Arts student at IES Altaír de Getafe, received the accessit.
The awards ceremony was attended by Feli Bernardo, a renowned painter and a member of the Board of Directors of the Spanish Association of Watercolorists (AEDA). Bernardo praised the originality of the participants: "Despite the difficulty of creating from scratch starting from a motto, it is much easier to draw a real landscape," he commented. According to her, the fresh ideas of the young artists offer a new perspective on health and hospitals.
For her part, the hospital's medical director, Nuria García Montes, highlighted the importance of young people's artistic expression for understanding the perception they have of healthcare professionals. The works you have painted today not only can help us understand how you see us, but they surely motivate us to keep improving our management," he said.
With only two hours to create their paintings, the participants displayed their talent using free techniques, although digital creation was excluded. The event, organized by the Hospital Administration and the Foundation for Biomedical Research, concluded with the decision to exhibit the selected works in the hospital's main lobby for one week, allowing visitors and professionals to appreciate young art and its reflections on hospital life.
