Donald Trump has unveiled a plan whose descriptor as 'peaceful' is being questioned by numerous critics. This project, according to various sources, could mean more death and suffering for the Palestinian people. Meanwhile, the Israeli prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, applauds it, both aware that this plan is perceived by many as a trap for a people that has been in conflict for decades.
The international community watches with astonishment what some describe as a political magic trick, where the apparent dove of peace actually hides shadows of oppression. The only solution, several analysts insist, is to recognize the inalienable rights of the Palestinians: the end of genocide, apartheid, imprisonment, exile, demolitions, and the stopping of the deaths of innocents. It is about returning the lands and homes seized during years of occupation and putting an end to so much humanitarian suffering. It is not a religious conflict, but one that touches the core of life, freedom, and respect for human rights.
Last year, on September 27, 2024, a significant movement took place in the Spanish State. The General Confederation of Labour (CGT), together with other collectives and social organizations, organized a general strike in solidarity with Palestine. The protest demanded the 'immediate rupture' of commercial, diplomatic and military relations with Israel. With the support of 200 civil society organizations, though ignored by the UGT and CCOO unions, this mobilization was one more among many that seek to denounce the acts of violence in Gaza. It is noted that these actions have influenced a gradual shift in the Pedro Sánchez government's stance toward a more decisive condemnation of Netanyahu's government's policies.
However, experts warn, decisive and persistent international pressure is essential to curb what they call a colonialist death machine. Only a global boycott of the State of Israel can, as in South Africa, change the dynamics of the current events.
In this context, the Global Sumud Flotilla stands as a symbol of resistance. With people from 44 different nationalities, this group sails toward Gaza to express their solidarity with the Palestinian people. This gesture highlights the importance of international solidarity, love for humanity, indignation at injustices, and commitment to real change.
At the local level, the struggle continues. In Madrid and Aragon, strikes in the educational sector are planned on October 3 to promote “education against barbarism.” Additionally, on October 4 there will be demonstrations in virtually all the cities in Spain. At the global level, a day of struggle has been called that will be activated in response to any attack or interference against the Global Sumud Flotilla.
October is shaping up to be a crucial month in the fight to stop the genocide. The fate of an entire nation, and consequently of humanity, is at stake. As the world continues to debate and those in power play politics, the urgency to act becomes unavoidable. The CGT expresses a firm commitment: humanity must prevail and freedom for Palestine must be a reality.
