They appoint the Head of Pulmonology at La Princesa Hospital as a Full Professor at the Autonomous University of Madrid.

The recent formation of a commission of experts marks a milestone in the field of medicine and Spanish academia. This committee is composed of distinguished specialists, including Francisco García Río, president and professor of Medicine at the Autonomous University of Madrid (UAM), and Esteban Daudén Tello, secretary and professor of Dermatology at the same university. Additionally, the following individuals participate: Enrique Aranda Aguilar, Professor of Medical Oncology at the University of Córdoba; María Isabel Lucena González, Professor of Clinical Pharmacology at the University of Málaga; Teresa Carrillo Díaz, Professor of Allergology at the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria; Gloria Torralbo Caballero, Medical Director of La Princesa Hospital, and Luisa Consuelo García Buey, Director of the Department of Medicine at the UAM.

An outstanding example of the medical and academic experience that is integrated into this commission is Julio Ancochea Bermúdez. Since 2000, Ancochea has been the head of the Pulmonology Service at La Princesa University Hospital, and previously he was the medical director of the same center from 1994 to 1998. With a prolific career, he also serves as a tenured professor at the Faculty of Medicine of the UAM and leads the Association of Galician Doctors (ASOMEGA).

Ancochea has chaired important organizations such as the Spanish Lung Foundation (RESPIRA) and the Spanish Society of Pulmonology and Thoracic Surgery (SEPAR), in addition to leading SEPAR Solidaria between 2010 and 2018. Their scholarly output is extensive, with 10 books, 62 chapters in books, and about 200 articles in specialized journals, both national and international. He has directed numerous PhD courses and doctoral theses, and has been a speaker and distinguished researcher in multiple forums and clinical trials.

Recognized on several occasions, Ancochea has received awards such as Physician of the Year in 2007, in addition to multiple accolades for his social commitment and contributions to pulmonology. Recently, he has been awarded the Admirable Award 2024 from Diario Médico and has been included in the list of the best doctors in Spain by El Confidencial. Under his leadership, the Pulmonology Service of the Hospital de La Princesa has been repeatedly recognized in the Best in Class awards from Gaceta Médica for its excellence in patient care.

The formation of this elite commission underscores the Spanish medical landscape's commitment to academic and clinical excellence, highlighting collaboration across diverse areas of specialization to address the current challenges facing public health.
