Madrid's hotels are betting on energy efficiency as the engine of competitiveness in the sector.

The Hotel Technological Institute (ITH), in collaboration with the Hotel Industry Employers' Association of Madrid (AEHM), has celebrated a new edition of the Hotel Energy Meetings, a specialized forum on sustainability and energy management In the hotel sector that has brought together tourism professionals and experts in technological innovation.

The day was intended to analyze the main challenges facing the sector and to pool together solutions that help hotels move toward a model. more efficient, competitive and committed to decarbonization. In this context, the energy efficiency is consolidated as a key element for reduce costs, increase profitability and strengthen Madrid's image as a leading urban destination.

The meeting was inaugurated by the president of the AEHM, Gabriel García Alonso, who underscored the dual nature of sustainability for Madrid's hotel industry: a necessity and, at the same time, an opportunity. Our hotels are immersed in a profound transformation in which energy efficiency and decarbonization constitute strategic pillars. Complying with European regulations and commitments on climate matters is fundamental, but equally important is responding to what customers are increasingly demanding. The day has begun with the intervention of Director General of the ITH, Álvaro Carrillo de Albornoz, and has continued with the of the Head of the Sustainability and Energy Efficiency Area at ITH, Coralía Pino, who has presented the ITHSaveHotel program, an initiative subsidized by the Secretariat of State for Tourism that provides hotel establishments with the opportunity to immediately and sustainably reduce their energy costs.

The program of presentations has addressed various aspects related to efficiency:

  • Energy production and climate control, with the participation of Cristian M. León, by Bosch; Javier Maroto, from Mitsubishi Heavy Industries; Mónica Castro, from Daikin; and, David Gómez, of Sulion.
  • Fluid transport and water management, with the intervention of Ramón Gutiérrez, from Wilo Ibérica; José Luis Bernadaus, from Italsan;Paula Rodríguez, from Rabmer GreenTech; and, Pablo Blanco, from TTR Mechanical.
  • Energy management of the establishment and alternative energies, with solutions presented by Manuel Castro and Francisco J. Sierra, from Remica and EXEON; Enrique Valer, of Signify; and, Pablo Blanco, from TTR Mechanical.

The various interventions have highlighted the relevance of smart monitoring as a key tool to optimize energy consumption, as well as the strategic role of the refurbishment of facilities and the integration of renewable energy sources in hotel management models. Moreover, the opportunities offered by access to specialized technical advisory services, energy-saving certifications (CAEs), and the available financing options have been highlighted as elements that enable hotels to advance with confidence toward a more efficient, competitive, and sustainable model.

Through collaboration with initiatives like this, the AEHM reaffirms its commitment to driving a hotel model that is more sustainable, efficient and competitive.
