Las Ventas pays homage to Antoñete with a new monument in his honor

The renowned bullfighter José Antonio Morante de la Puebla has unveiled a statue in honor of Antonio Chenel 'Antoñete' in Madrid's Las Ventas Square. Morante, who spearheaded the creation of the monument, organized a festival to raise the 130,000 euros needed for its financing. This work by the Sevillian sculptor Martín Lagares measures 2.3 meters in height and weighs 500 kilograms, depicting Antoñete with his distinctive cape and cigar. The opening ceremony was attended by the honoree's relatives, bullfighters, Madrid's Minister of the Interior, Carlos Novillo, and the businessman Rafael García Garrido.

The bullfighting festival that will be held to honor Antoñete has already sold out, despite a last-minute change: Julio Aparicio will be replaced by Carlos Escolar Frascuelo. The lineup includes prominent figures such as the rejoneador Hermoso de Mendoza and the toreros Curro Vázquez, César Rincón, Enrique Ponce, and the novillera Olga Casado. In the afternoon, the bullfight on Día de la Hispanidad will take place, marking the end of the season in Madrid. Morante de la Puebla, Fernando Robleño in his farewell, and the young Sergio Rodríguez, who will confirm his alternativa with Garcigrande bulls.
