The Skin: A Temporary and Dynamic Seedbed, Revealed by Experts in Dermocosmetics

In a recent meeting of experts in dermocosmetics and cosmetology, the importance of consistency in the use of skincare products was highlighted. Raquel González, a cosmetologist and creator of Byoode, emphasized that applying large amounts of products in a single day does not compensate for the lack of a weekly routine. According to González, "the skin doesn't work like a sponge that accumulates active ingredients to be used later."

The belief that a serum applied in excess can have cumulative effects is a myth. Mireia Fernández, Perricone MD's Director of Dermocosmetics, stated that "there's no point in bingeing on cosmetics if you then forget about them for the rest of the week." The skin uses the active ingredients at the moment of application, without leaving any reserves for the future.

Estefanía Nieto, Director of Dermocosmetics at Medik8, explained that each ingredient has a range of penetration and a limit of efficacy. Using it irregularly prevents it from realizing its full potential. Marta Agustí, the nutrition director of Advanced Nutrition Programme, added that the epidermis' cell turnover every few weeks makes it essential to maintain a consistent routine. "The cells that benefit from an asset detach themselves, so it is necessary to restart the cycle continuously," he added.

However, some actives, such as retinoids and vitamin C, may have lasting effects. Patricia Garín, Director of Dermocosmetics at Boutijour, explained that even though the skin does not retain the active ingredients, the effects they trigger, such as collagen synthesis, may endure. This is similar to the hair process: "When a strand of hair stops using dye, it returns to its natural tone. The same happens to the skin if it stops receiving cosmetics," explained Raquel González, emphasizing the importance of a long-term commitment to see results.

Among the highlighted products is Medik8's C-Tetra Advanced, which promises visible radiance thanks to its 20% stabilized vitamin C. Byoode's Retin-A Night combines potent retinoids and other ingredients to combat aging. Also, Perricone MD Neuropeptide Firming Moisturizer offers a long-lasting lifting effect, while Boutijour Snow Lotus Lifting Serum uses botanical extracts for deep hydration.

Experts agree that the key to maximizing benefits and maintaining long-term skin health lies in the regular and consistent use of the products.
