A 57-year-old man was seriously injured in a shooting outside the Serbian Parliament in Belgrade, an act that President Aleksandar Vucic described as 'terrorism' attributed to the opposition. The 70-year-old alleged attacker, identified as Vladan Andjelkovic, was arrested after shooting the pro-government supporter Milan Bogdanovic. According to Vucic, Andjelkovic entered a tent with a can of gasoline, triggering chaos. The protests against the government, motivated by a deadly accident in Novi Sad, have persisted over the past year, accusing the Executive of corruption and negligence.
After the incident, President Vucic stated that these kinds of events reflect the latent dangers in protests, highlighting the 'political motivation' behind the attack. Andjelkovic, in a video released by the police, stated that he acted alone and out of discomfort with the tents installed by supporters of Vučić. Despite this, the impact of the opposition campaign against those structures was underscored. The opposition leader Savo Manojlovic criticized institutional permissiveness by allowing the camp, which, he says, fosters divisions. The protests in Serbia continue in a climate of sustained political tension.
