Exchange of Reproaches: Government and Opposition Debate Over the Transfer of Powers Between Sánchez-Puigdemont and Aznar-Pujol

In a heated parliamentary session, the spokesperson for the People's Party, Cuca Gamarra, launched harsh criticisms against the Government, accusing it of acting as 'the Trojan Horse of separatism in the state apparatus'. Gamarra argued that the current government is weakening national unity and yielding to the pressures of the independence groups in its bid to stay in power. Their statements are made in a context of intense political polarization and amid negotiations between the Government and regional political forces, which are seeking to find a way out of the political stalemate in several autonomous communities.

In response to those criticisms, the Minister of Finance, María Jesús Montero, defended the Government's work, stating that "reaching agreements is not yielding, it's democracy." Montero emphasized that the ability to engage in dialogue and reach a consensus is a fundamental value in a democratic system, and dismissed Gamarra's accusations as attempts to distort reality. According to the minister, building bridges with the different political forces in the country is essential to ensure governability and to make progress toward solutions that benefit all citizens. This exchange reflects the current tensions between the government and the opposition regarding the country's political direction.
