Equality Recognizes Machista Violence in a Run-Over Case in Badajoz

The Government Delegation against Gender Violence has confirmed that the fatal hit-and-run incident that occurred in La Codosera, Badajoz, is a new case of gender-based violence. The victim, a 46-year-old woman, died after being run over by a vehicle allegedly driven by her partner, who was arrested shortly after by the Guardia Civil. Initially, the possibility of an accident was considered, but the collected evidence indicated an intentional act, bringing the case before the Court of Violence against Women in Badajoz, which has ordered pretrial detention without bail for the suspect.

The tragedy has elicited reactions of repulsion at various institutional levels. The Prime Minister, Pedro Sánchez, expressed his sorrow and commitment in the fight against gender-based violence, while the Minister of Equality, Ana Redondo, urged a collective effort to eradicate this scourge. In Extremadura, the president of the Junta, María Guardiola, expressed her indignation and support for the affected family. This incident adds to the tragic counts of gender-based violence, with 30 women murdered so far this year, a persistent reminder of the need for decisive and effective actions to protect women and ensure their well-being.
