The Xunta de Galicia has declared a new hunting emergency situation for wild boar hunting, effective from this Saturday through February 22, 2026. This measure will allow unrestricted hunting in 254 municipalities across the four Galician provinces, covering a total of 38 comarcas (districts), which represents a reduction from the 260 areas planned in 2024. The actions are carried out under an extraordinary framework that has already been activated on previous occasions, this being the fifth use of the emergency measure to manage the region's wild boar population.
During the emergency period, wild boars of both sexes may be hunted, with a recommendation to prioritize adult and subadult females. Hunting will be allowed seven days a week on hunting grounds, while in zones not authorized, a specific authorization will be required. The area affected by this new measure resembles that of the previous year, with the exception of the inclusion of some areas that have suffered damage from forest fires, such as Petín in Valdeorras. Thus, hunting will be governed by an authorization system and will focus on controlling the growing population of this species in the community.
