Felipe VI: 'Israel can defend itself, but it must stop the massacre in Gaza'

King Felipe VI has made history by delivering his first speech before the United Nations General Assembly in a decade, focusing on different topics, mainly the Gaza crisis. In his address, he stressed the non-negotiable human dignity and criticized both the acts of violence perpetrated by Hamas and the actions of Benjamin Netanyahu's Israeli government. He underscored the urgent need for a ceasefire and for guaranteeing humanitarian aid, highlighting that "the international community must assume its responsibility" in order to reach a peaceful solution that contemplates the coexistence of two states.

Beyond addressing the crisis in the Middle East, King Felipe VI conducted a broader analysis of global issues, recalling the relevance of the 2030 Agenda and his commitment to human rights, gender equality, and environmental sustainability. He stressed the importance of properly managing immigration and promoted an approach to artificial intelligence that favors fair transformations. In a clear call to action, he emphasized that it is essential to triple renewable energy capacity and that Europe must be more effective and cohesive in facing global challenges.
