Víctor Terradellas, former secretary of international relations of Convergència Democràtica de Catalunya, died this Sunday in Tarragona after suffering a stroke. Terradellas, who played a fundamental role in the internationalization of the Catalan independence process, was recognized for his behind-the-scenes work since the founding of the NGO IGMAN-Acció Solidària, which was investigated for misappropriation of public funds to support independence. Throughout his career, Terradellas also promoted the creation of the Generalitat's Cooperation Agency and the CatMon Foundation, both projects involved in investigations into the mismanagement of public subsidies.
The most high-profile case involving Terradellas was his role in the so-called "Russian plot," where he admitted to having facilitated meetings between the Generalitat and representatives of the Kremlin, although he denied having reached any formal agreements. Despite the investigations, both the Barcelona Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court archived the cases for defects of form. Terradellas, who also maintained contacts with Israel and China, left a significant mark on the Catalan independence movement's international agenda, achieving the establishment of networks of dialogue at a global level.
