Europe urges Marlaska to bolster the protection of the agents after the tragic incident in Barbate.

A group of Members of the European Parliament who recently visited Andalusia has proposed in a report that the profession of police officers be classified as high risk at the level of the European Union. This initiative seeks to provide official recognition of the inherent risks of police work and to establish additional measures of protection and support for these professionals. Furthermore, the report proposes that acts of violence against agents be regarded as 'eurocrimes', a classification that would ensure that such crimes do not go unpunished within European territory.

The proposal arises from the growing concerns about the security of police forces and the need for a unified response at the EU level. MEPs argue that classifying these acts as eurocrimes would facilitate cross-border cooperation and would provide greater effectiveness in the prevention and prosecution of these acts. The measure reflects a trend toward strengthening collective security policies in Europe and underscores the importance of protecting those who are on the front lines of law enforcement.
