Madrid advances toward access to affordable housing with the recent awarding of 645 homes under the Suma Vivienda Plan. Álvaro González, Head of Housing Policy and president of EMVS Madrid, presided over the signing of the agreement with Grupo Salas, which will develop the projects. Ana de Miguel, CEO of EMVS, and Clara Muñoz, director of the Salas Foundation, formalized the contract award.
The plan will allow building more than 2,200 homes in Los Ahijones and Los Berrocales, in the Vicálvaro district. Grupo Salas will manage 322 homes in Los Berrocales and 323 in Los Ahijones, under an affordable rental regime for 65 years. After this period, the housing units will be added to the public park.
In the first phase of the plan, 1,600 homes will be developed, with a 5% reduction in rent, a key criterion in the awarding. With an estimated 24,000 jobs created, the second phase will add 600 more homes, bringing the total to 2,200 affordable flats, saving around 360 million euros for the municipal coffers.
Madrid leads in public housing with more than 9,300 units, according to the Housing and Land Observatory. The EMVS manages more than 6,200 projects in various stages. In 2022, the EMVS was responsible for 30% of the affordable rental housing in Spain, consolidating itself as the country's leading public developer.
