The Madrid Municipal Transport Company (EMT Madrid) has joined the worldwide celebration of International Museum Day with an initiative that brings art to the streets of the Spanish capital. In an initiative presented today by delegates Borja Carabante and Marta Rivera de la Cruz, EMT will collaborate with three national museums and one municipal museum, using buses, bicycles and bus shelters as canvases for some of the most emblematic works housed in these cultural venues.
Starting today, four municipal buses, together with several bus shelters strategically located near each museum, and 50 Bicimad bicycles, will carry art in motion. The aim is to highlight the visual and communicative capacity of these modes of transportation and to encourage both residents and tourists to explore the city's artistic riches for free.
The prestigious Prado Museum has selected 'The Garden of Earthly Delights' by Hieronymus Bosch as its contribution to this campaign. In turn, the Reina Sofía Museum will exhibit "The Open Window" by Juan Gris, while the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum will present "The Dream" by Franz Marc on bicycles, "Les Vessenots in Auvers" by Vincent van Gogh on bus shelters, and "Waterloo Bridge" by André Derain on the buses. Finally, the History Museum of Madrid has contributed "Fiesta en la plaza Mayor de Madrid" by Juan de la Corte.
The participating buses, corresponding to lines 14, 37, 40, and 45, will move along specific routes, connecting key points of the city and allowing art to travel around Madrid on a daily basis.
This initiative is part of a series of special events promoted by EMT Madrid, similar to those carried out during significant dates such as San Isidro or Christmas festivities, where other cultural and community experiences have been offered to citizens.
With these actions, Madrid seeks not only to commemorate art and culture but also to integrate these expressions into the daily life of the city, reaffirming its commitment to the dissemination of cultural heritage and universal access to art.
