The 28th Congress of the Spanish Society of Primary Care Pharmacists (SEFAP), held from October 1 to 3 in Madrid, became a meeting point for professionals from all over Spain, who shared knowledge and crucial advances in primary care pharmacy. This event stood out not only for its academic relevance, but also for the awards granted to outstanding professionals from the Primary Care Pharmacy Service of the Madrid Health Service.
Among the awardees is the team led by Marina Peláez Agudo, M.V. Cano Ruiz, and Daniel Plaza Seco, which earned the Best Pharmacotherapeutic Review Award for their work "Pharmacotherapeutic and Nutritional Review of an Institutionalized Patient with a Severe Disability." This study underscores the importance of integrating pharmacotherapeutic and nutritional aspects in the care of vulnerable patients, promoting a more holistic approach to their care.
On the other hand, the appropriateness of fosfomycin treatment in women with cystitis was the focus of the oral presentation “Less is More,” which received the third prize in its category. The authors Jimena Ramón García, Mª Ángeles Cruz Martos, Ángela Usarralde Pérez, Ana Blázquez, Ana Isabel Pablos Mateos, and Javier Montero Zarracín presented an intervention that not only optimizes treatments, but also seeks to reduce unnecessary administration of medications.
Finally, the fifth prize for the best oral presentation went to the work "The less prescription, the greater safety." This presentation, conducted by Carmen Marina Meseguer Barros and her team, examined the positive impact of pharmacotherapeutic strategies aimed at optimizing therapy in older patients, minimizing the use of potentially inappropriate medications.
These awards reflect the commitment and dedication of primary care pharmacists in improving the quality of healthcare, highlighting their essential role in promoting safe and effective pharmacotherapy.
