The political scene in Spain heated up this weekend in Andalusia, more precisely in the province of Málaga, in the context of the upcoming regional elections. The leader of the People's Party, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, supported the president of the Junta, Juan Manuel Moreno, in Alhaurín el Grande, while the Prime Minister, Pedro Sánchez, headed an event in Málaga alongside his candidate, María Jesús Montero. Sánchez took advantage of the occasion to highlight his achievements in social policies, emphasizing the dispute with the PP over housing policies, a hot topic in the socialist government's dealings in the face of opposition.
In a major announcement, Sánchez revealed that the Ministry of Housing will require digital platforms to remove 53,876 advertisements for tourist flats that have irregularities, with the aim of turning them into affordable rentals for young people and families. This measure is framed within the government's policy to regulate the tourism sector and aligns with the implementation of the Unified Registry of Temporary Accommodations, a pioneering mechanism in Europe intended to combat fraud in tourist rentals. Since its inception, the registry has processed more than 336,000 applications, with a notable percentage of revocations among those intended for tourist purposes.
