Vinicius Junior, forward for Real Madrid, has received a two-match ban after being sent off during the match played at Mestalla against Valencia, according to the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF). The incident occurred in the 79th minute, when Vinicius pushed Valencia's goalkeeper, Dimitrievski. Despite this sanction, the Brazilian player will be able to participate in the Spanish Super Cup, which will be played this Thursday in Jeddah against Mallorca, but he will miss the next two La Liga matches against Las Palmas and Valladolid, scheduled for January 19 and 25, respectively.
The Disciplinary Committee has made its decision based on the report drafted by referee Soto Grado, who did not classify Vinicius's action as an act of aggression, which would have entailed a longer suspension of at least four matches. In his report, Soto Grado noted that Vinicius was sent off for deliberately striking the opponent in the head, while the ball was not in play and with considerable force. After being sent off, the player had to be restrained and taken to the locker rooms while he continued protesting. The RFEF justified the sanction by indicating that Vinicius's conduct occurred violently, outside the play and without the possibility of disputing the ball.
