The climatologist Sergio Vicente on the fires: 'Clearing the entire country annually is impracticable'

An expert on droughts and the ACES-Margarita Salas Award has strongly criticized the politicization and demagoguery present in forest management. In a context of the climate crisis and growing concern about environmental sustainability, the specialist emphasized the need to develop a very long-term strategic forest management plan that transcends political differences. According to him, the constant changes in direction and lack of continuity in forestry policies are hindering effective and sustainable management of natural resources.

The expert insisted that forest management must be a national priority that does not depend on the current government. He argued that only through a firm commitment and adequate resources will it be possible to guarantee the protection and sustainable use of forests. He also added that it is crucial to involve the citizenry and raise public awareness about the importance of this issue in order to ensure a sustainable future.
