The Local Government Board has given the green light to an ambitious lighting project that seeks to modernize and improve the quality of street lighting in Alcalá. The Department of Public Works, Urban Maintenance and Municipal Buildings will lead this initiative as part of the Plan "Alcalá Improves Its Neighborhoods", with an expected investment of 500,000 euros.
This effort is framed within the transition toward a more sustainable and efficient technology, through the installation of LED luminaires across the city. Antonio Saldaña, the councilor responsible for the area, emphasized that this measure will not only benefit the environment, but will also provide a significant increase in brightness. Additionally, they will focus on reinforcing street lighting in areas that currently lack lighting, thereby addressing the citizens' demands.
The project, which will be implemented in 2026, will have a six-month execution period once the contractual bases are established.
The push for the modernization of public lighting is not new for the local government. In previous months, more than €100,000 has been allocated to improve the street lighting on José María Pereda Street, including the addition of 70 lights and the installation of 14 projectors at the pedestrian crossings. Zones such as Val Avenue, Stallions Park, and the area around the Primo de Rivera Barracks have also received significant improvements.
Saldaña emphasized the local government's commitment to the well-being of the citizenry, highlighting that these interventions not only improve urban visibility, but also strengthen safety and quality of life in the neighborhoods. According to the councilor, work will continue to ensure the modernization of Alcalá's public spaces and infrastructures, in line with the residents' expectations.
