Devastating torrential rains drag tons of trash onto the beaches of El Salvador.

The intense recent rains in El Salvador caused the accumulation of approximately 300 tons of garbage on the beaches of Acajutla, washed in from various rivers. Among the waste, carcasses of decomposing animals were found, raising concerns about potential health risks. The Ministry of Public Works has started a cleaning program with heavy machinery, but local residents say that this problem recurs every rainy season. The storms of the past week have left at least eleven people dead across Central America.
