Autonomous communities assume new benefits for people with ALS within the framework of Social Rights.

This Thursday, the Ministry of Social Rights convened an extraordinary Territorial Council to inform the regional governments about the details of the recently approved decree-law that supplements the ELA Law's regulations. This decree, which is already in force, introduces Extreme Dependency Grade III Plus, designed to provide patients with ALS and other neurological diseases in advanced stages with a higher level of care and support.

The Minister of Social Rights, Pablo Bustinduy, in his telematic address, emphasized that this new degree recognizes the need for highly specialized care for those facing these conditions, ensuring 24-hour continuous care. To facilitate the implementation of this new level, Bustinduy stressed the Ministry's willingness to collaborate closely with the Autonomous Communities, emphasizing the urgency of adapting their dependency systems so that this benefit, of up to 9,868 euros per month per patient, can be effectively provided.

The funding for this benefit will be structured with a fixed contribution from the central government of 4,930 euros per month, while the autonomous communities will cover the rest, allowing coverage for up to five caregivers per patient.

In parallel, the government has secured the injection of 500 million euros into SAAD to support the development of the ELA Law and guarantee the new services. Bustinduy appealed to the consensus of the autonomous communities' governments in the implementation of these measures, a consensus that had already been reflected in the unanimous approval of the ELA Law in the General Courts.

Yesterday, Bustinduy also met with representatives from ConELA, the largest association of people with ALS in Spain. Authorized by the approval of the new level of extreme dependence, the representatives of the confederation expressed their satisfaction, considering the decree a significant advance in the care of neurodegenerative diseases.
