Classes suspended in five counties of Tarragona due to torrential rain alerts.

The Department of Education of the Generalitat has decided to suspend school activities in five counties in Tarragona—Montsià, Baix Ebre, Ribera d’Ebre, Baix Camp and Terra Alta—due to the forecast of heavy rain. This measure is implemented in response to recommendations from Civil Protection, which also urges reducing the mobility of school staff. The weather conditions have led to the closure of five roads and to the disruption of railway services, affecting thousands of passengers in the region.

The rains, caused by a DANA, have generated significant water accumulations, which have led to the closure of major roads, such as the N-340 and the AP-7. In response to the adverse conditions, the State Meteorological Agency has issued a red alert level for the southern coast of Tarragona. So far, the 112 emergency number has logged 630 calls related to the situation, and the President of the Generalitat has urged the population to exercise caution and follow the safety guidelines.
