Barcelona allocates 40 million to improve 22 kilometers of sewer lines in its urban revitalization plan.

The City Council of Barcelona has committed a significant investment of 40.6 million euros to modernize and expand its sewer network. This ambitious project encompasses the rehabilitation of 13 kilometers and the construction of nine kilometers of new infrastructure, with works to be carried out until the year 2027. The first deputy mayor, Laia Bonet, supervised a portion of the project on the Paseo Sant Joan, where she explained that the initiative seeks to improve the hydraulic capacity of the system and prevent problems arising from torrential rains, in a context where climate change has begun to have a serious impact. With the aim of carrying out these improvements, the Endreça Plan contemplates 201 works, distributed as 50 for the year 2025, 121 in 2026, and more than 30 in 2027.

Barcelona's sewer system, which spans 1,985 kilometers, is designed to handle both domestic wastewater and stormwater. Currently, the city has 15 rainwater retention tanks, combined with an expansion plan that contemplates the construction of 29 new tanks. Among these, the important project on Rambla Prim stands out, aimed at mitigating the hydraulic shortfall and preventing waste from reaching the sea, with an investment exceeding 50 million euros. The plans also include crucial works such as the expansion of the drainage system in Vila i Vilà and the second phase of the splitting of the Diagonal collector, aspects that seek to improve water management in the city's critical areas such as Ciutat Vella and Poble Sec.
