The president of the Community of Madrid, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, has defended freedom of creed in the region this Friday and expressed her concern about the growing persecution of the Jewish religion. During the La Paloma festival, Ayuso warned about cultural clashes that could arise due to demographic changes in Spain, urging reflection on how to coexist in a context where some citizens appear reluctant to integrate. "Demography in Spain is changing at a rapid pace and we must decide how we want to coexist," stated the female leader.
In response to the recent controversy over the prohibition of Islamic celebrations in sports centers in Jumilla, Ayuso stressed that Spain is a secular country and that all religions have the right to express themselves publicly. He stated that, although the Catholic tradition is defended for being the majority tradition, there must be room for mutual respect among different beliefs. Moreover, he highlighted that municipalities have the freedom to determine the suitable places for these celebrations, noting that the Catholic religion has faced significant rejection in recent decades.
