The Minister for Family, Youth and Social Affairs of the Community of Madrid, Ana Dávila, has called on the mayors of several municipalities in the region to reconsider their stance on the transfer of parcels for the construction of new residences. San Fernando de Henares, Fuenlabrada, Getafe, Coslada, Parla, and Alcorcón are among the municipalities initially reluctant to participate in this initiative, which has attracted the interest of more than 100 municipalities in the Community of Madrid.
Dávila emphasized the importance of putting politics at the service of the citizens, asserting that true greatness lies in anticipating the future and protecting the most vulnerable, without letting ideologies become barriers.
The project foresees the construction of 40 new residences, starting with the first in the Las Rosas neighborhood in San Blas-Canillejas, whose bidding will begin early next year. In an initial phase, 13 more will be added in different districts of Madrid, as well as six in nearby municipalities such as Leganés, Móstoles and Rivas Vaciamadrid.
The regional president, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, announced during the latest State of the Region Debate that at least half of these residences will be put out to tender next year. This plan integrates the Madrid Model of social care, which is characterized by creating living units of up to 25 people, providing a home-like environment with common areas and permanent contact with family members.
Additionally, this model is being applied in existing public residences, introducing specialized units tailored to the diverse needs of users, such as psychogeriatric care and care for behavioral disorders.
The project reflects a commitment to improve the quality of life of the most vulnerable citizens, prioritizing a humane and personalized approach to social care in the Madrid region.
