Madrid's municipal museums are experiencing a notable increase in the number of visitors in 2025, maintaining the positive trend observed in 2024. As of May 31, the Madrid History Museum, the San Isidro Museum, and the Imprenta Municipal-Artes del Libro have recorded sustained growth in their visitor figures, according to data from the City Council's Department of Culture, Tourism and Sport.
The Museum of History of Madrid has received nearly 118,000 visitors in the first five months of the year. This museum, located in the historic Hospicio de San Fernando, attracted almost 276,000 visitors in 2024, surpassing the 238,500 visits in 2023. For its part, the San Isidro Museum. The Origins of Madrid has received nearly 47,000 visitors as of May 2025, a slight increase compared with the same period in 2024. The Municipal Printing House–Book Arts has received 15,700 visits so far in 2025, on track to surpass the 33,250 from last year. This museum is dedicated to the conservation and exhibition of the history of printing, as well as restoring valuable graphic documents belonging to other municipal entities.
This upward trend reflects the Culture, Tourism and Sport Area's strategy to strengthen museums as cultural spaces close to and connected with the community. The offering is complemented by educational activities, special programs, and interinstitutional collaborations. Moreover, these museums play an important role in preserving Madrid's historical heritage, as evidenced by the recent restoration of the city's processional monstrance.
