The ministry headed by Pablo Bustinduy has announced an ambitious action plan that will inject more than 65 million euros to promote equality and combat violence against women and girls with disabilities. This plan, approved at the Plenary of the National Disability Council, will be developed between 2025 and 2035 and includes 43 measures to address crucial areas such as education, employment, health, and justice.
Bustinduy, Minister of Social Rights, Consumption and the 2030 Agenda, stressed the Government's commitment: "We have approved the first plan of our democracy to protect and promote the rights of women and girls with disabilities, who continue to face unacceptable levels of inequality."
The initiative responds to the mandate of the renewed Article 49 of the Spanish Constitution and to the Spanish Strategy on Disability 2022-2030, aligning with the Sustainable Development Goals. Aims to eradicate discrimination and violence, ensure sexual and reproductive rights, and promote the participation and visibility of women with disabilities.
The measures include the development of guides and trainings for professionals, studies and protocols to prevent discrimination, and actions to ensure access to justice and full inclusion in society. The plan was developed by the State Disability Observatory, incorporating the voices of women and girls themselves.
In addition, it is complemented by the reform of the Dependency and Disability laws, currently under consideration by Congress, which strengthens universal accessibility and the rights to sexual and reproductive health. The full plan document is available in several accessible formats.
