The Madrid City Council's Governing Board has given the green light to the special plan for the regularization of public spaces in the historic neighborhoods of Loyola and Virgen de la Inmaculada, located in the Carabanchel district. This plan, announced by Deputy Mayor Inma Sanz at a press conference, aims to improve the livability, accessibility, and sustainability of these areas.
The new plan will allow the continuation of the urbanization works that have already begun under the direction of the Madrid Municipal Housing and Land Company (EMVS Madrid). Currently, a first phase of these works is being carried out, and the approval of the plan will pave the way for a second phase that will guarantee the urban regeneration of the inter-block spaces.
With a scope of intervention that covers 97,314 square meters, the project focuses on transforming the inter-block spaces into regenerated areas for the citizens. These spaces will be classified according to their characteristics for use as parts of the road network or as pedestrian areas, depending on their function. The plan also includes changes to the parcels allocated for facilities so that their use is more in line with their intended purpose, converting, for example, lands previously designated for basic facilities into green spaces.
Thus, the plan not only seeks to update and improve urban infrastructure but also aims to strengthen the identity of these historic neighborhoods, promoting greater social cohesion and improving the quality of life for its residents.
