The province of Huelva has suffered an intense storm during the early hours, which has led to maintaining a red alert in the Andévalo area and along the coast until 9 a.m. Cartaya has been one of the most affected municipalities, recording rainfall of up to 90 liters per square meter, although in the Nuevo Portil district the rains have reached 150 liters. The mayor of Cartaya, Manuel Barroso, has been supervising the emergency operations since the early hours, working alongside the firefighters and using tractors to pump out water. Despite the complications, it has not been necessary to evacuate any residents, although local authorities remain vigilant regarding the evolution of the weather and are in contact with the Government Sub-Delegation of the Junta, responsible for coordinating possible evacuations.
Other municipalities in the region, such as Lepe and Punta Umbría, have also activated their emergency plans. Isla Cristina, which was recently hit by a tornado that caused considerable damage, hopes to return to normal once the weather improves. For its part, in Jerez de la Frontera, 50 families from rural areas have been evacuated as a precaution due to the risk of flooding of the Guadalete River, being temporarily housed in a convent and a shelter provided by the Junta, with the support of the Red Cross. The weather situation has generated warnings and mobilizations, both in the affected communities and on social media, where the precautionary message has been emphasized ahead of Halloween celebrations, urging the population to avoid unnecessary outings.
